If there’s one themed game the Yankees consistently nail, it’s Star Wars Day. Even if you’re not a baseball fan—or a Star Wars fan—you’ll still walk away smiling. It’s one of the most popular games of the year, and arriving early for the pre‑show is essential. With any high‑demand event, planning ahead makes all the difference.
Tickets
Star Wars Day tickets are not cheap. My usual strategy—buying resale tickets the day of or a few days before—barely made a dent in the price. For a typical game, we pay around $18–$35 per ticket. For Star Wars Day, the lowest price I found was $70, and those were the less desirable seats. Prices climb quickly the closer you get to the field.
This is exactly why Star Wars Day falls into the special occasion category. You’ll spend more than usual, so decide whether the pre‑show and the exclusive bobblehead are worth it. For us, they always are.
Getting There & Getting Home
I always recommend taking the train to Yankee Stadium. Cabs are fine if you’re running late, but they’re pricey and don’t offer much advantage. If you’re coming from out of state (looking at you, New Jersey), compare the cost of tolls and parking with train tickets and subway fares. Depending on your group size, driving may actually be cheaper.
If you plan to take a cab home directly from the stadium, expect surge pricing. The Bronx doesn’t have traditional yellow cabs, so your options are Uber, Lyft, or local livery cars. One way to save a little: hop on the subway for 2–3 stops, then call a car from there.

Game Day
For Star Wars Day, there is one rule: Get. There. Early. As in 3–4 hours before the gates open.
Each year we arrive earlier, and each year we still feel late. Why? Because the first 18,000 fans receive a special Star Wars bobblehead—and people line up early for it. Our first year, we almost missed out.
Parents: consider whether your kids can handle the wait and the crowds. The lines are long, and the energy is high.
Tip: Many major stadiums—including Yankee Stadium—accept CLEAR. On crowded days like Star Wars Day, it’s a lifesaver.
Once you secure your bobblehead, don’t rush to your seats. The stadium has Star Wars meet‑and‑greets and themed experiences throughout the concourse. On the second level, you can meet Darth Vader and crew, and staff will take a photo with your phone. The characters even handed out trading cards, which the kids loved.
The pre‑show includes a character parade, themed graphics on the jumbotron, and a dramatic Star Wars intro to kick off the game. The theming continues throughout, making the entire experience fun for fans of all ages.
Souvenirs, Food & Drinks
I didn’t notice any special Star Wars‑themed food or merchandise beyond the bobblehead, but we always grab the value bucket and bring a refillable water bottle.
